As part of our coverage we will be profiling a number of galleries and institutions active in Singapore and the South East Asia region, all of whom regularly participate in South East Asia\u2019s premier art fair, Art Stage Singapore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We begin this series visiting Richard Koh, whose&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/rkfineart.com\/\">eponymous gallery in Kuala Lumpur<\/a>&nbsp;is one of Malaysia\u2019s most influential, representing artists throughout the region, including&nbsp;<strong>Haffendi Anuar<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Justin Lim<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Natee Utarit<\/strong>, and&nbsp;<strong>Pattana Chuenmana<\/strong>\u2014one of the gallery\u2019s strengths being Thai art.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Soft-spoken and with a gentle sense of humour, Koh, a Kuala Lumpur native, sways between wry remarks to contemplativeness. On the art scene in Kuala Lumpur, Koh notes that \u201cIt\u2019s a bit more distinct [than Singapore], in its own way, but it is still very much part of the South East Asia Scene.\u201d&nbsp;In 2015, \u300arandian\u300bvisited Koh\u2019s booth at Art Central in Hong Kong. When asked whether he would prefer to show at Art Basel, he laughed \u201cArt Basel is great but so many of my collectors come to Art Central and it has been very successful for me!\u201d The point is important.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" width=\"528\" height=\"718\" src=\"https:\/\/randian-art.s3.ap-east-1.amazonaws.com\/2023\/12\/zh-hans\/image-380.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-17702\" srcset=\"https:\/\/randian-art.s3.ap-east-1.amazonaws.com\/2023\/12\/zh-hans\/EmnYHVyb-image-380-221x300.png 221w, https:\/\/randian-art.s3.ap-east-1.amazonaws.com\/2023\/12\/zh-hans\/image-380-110x150.png 110w, https:\/\/randian-art.s3.ap-east-1.amazonaws.com\/2023\/12\/zh-hans\/image-380.png 528w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 528px) 100vw, 528px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Richard Koh (courtesy the gallery)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Art Basel Hong Kong is oriented not exclusively but very firmly towards China. Art Stage Singapore and, to a lesser extent, Art Central, reflect a more regional outlook, one still relatively unexplored.
