On 28th<\/sup> February, Christie\u2019s auction house opened its first Asian gallery. The James Christie Room has 250+ square metres of viewing space, and will host curated exhibitions, charity events, art forums, sales and auctions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

An opening exhibition entitled \u201cBest of the Best\u201d will run until 15th<\/sup> March, with works of modern and contemporary Asian art, Chinese ceramics and paintings and Impressionist, post-war, modern and contemporary Western art. The show includes work by Sotheby\u2019s auction star Zeng Fanzhi, and Xu Beihong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the context of the new gallery venture, Fran\u00e7ois Curiel, Chairman of Christie\u2019s Asia Pacific, is quoted in the press release<\/a> as saying:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOur record results for Asia in 2013 demonstrate the growing demand and appreciation for art and culture in this region. This strong performance gives us confidence to invest further in our business in Hong Kong.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
