{"id":19296,"date":"2013-11-25T10:40:00","date_gmt":"2013-11-25T10:40:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.randian.art\/?p=19296"},"modified":"2024-01-02T10:43:36","modified_gmt":"2024-01-02T10:43:36","slug":"dong-bingfeng-announced-as-winner-of-2013-chinese-contemporary-art-critic-award","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.randian.art\/zh-hant\/dong-bingfeng-announced-as-winner-of-2013-chinese-contemporary-art-critic-award\/","title":{"rendered":"Dong Bingfeng Announced as Winner of 2013 Chinese Contemporary Art Critic Award"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>In a week that has seen much activity for the Chinese Contemporary Art Award in Beijing, Dong Bingfeng has been announced as the winning critic for 2013\u2014his entry being the proposal for a book entitled&nbsp;<em>Cinema of Exhibition: Film in Contemporary Chinese Art<\/em>. To quote the announcement speech delivered by Hans Ulrich Obrist, the book is projected \u201cto trace a range of developments in the evolution of the moving image as one of the central motifs in Chinese contemporary art. From the debates that arose in the 1980s for terms like \u2018video art\u2019 and also \u2018independent cinema\u2019 to the growth of installation methods producing interdisciplinary genres of moving-image work in the 1990s, to the prevalence of Chinese film and video in biennials and public discourse following China\u2019s semi-official sanction of contemporary art in 2000.\u201d The jury\u2014comprised of Obrist, Chen Danqing, Uli Sigg, Gao Shiming and Kevin McGarry\u2014felt the proposal \u201c[g]ives due attention to a medium that has represented the political realities of twenty-first-century life in China to audiences domestically and abroad\u2014a medium that has burgeoned despite an art market that tends to ignore the value of time-based practices.\u201d Dong Bingfeng explained that the book will give him the chance to express his personal opinions about a medium he is very familiar with. He will be given 80,000 RMB to support the publishing of his book.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Originally from Xinzhou, Shanxi, Dong Bingfeng worked at UCCA from 2006\u20137, and was in charge of the magazine section of the now-defunct Iberia Centre for Contemporary Art, being the managing editor of&nbsp;<em>Contemporary Art and Investment<\/em>&nbsp;as well as&nbsp;<em>Art and Investment<\/em>, among others (<a href=\"http:\/\/news.99ys.com\/20120303\/article--120303--82564_1.shtml\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">all since closed<\/a>&nbsp;due the the&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.theartnewspaper.com\/articles\/Chinese-gallery-owner-arrested-in-Madrid\/27414\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">financial scandals surrounding Iberia<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cui Cancan, a noteworthy curator, received an honorable mention for his proposal, for which the English title was given as&nbsp;<em>Rebuilding Order in the All-round Confrontation: New Methods in Chinese Contemporary Art after 2008<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Also part of today\u2019s conference was the book launch for&nbsp;<em>The Grey Carnival<\/em>&nbsp;by last year\u2019s CCAA winner, Zhu Zhu. The previous day saw the official opening of the CCAA Cube.
