{"id":20399,"date":"2014-12-01T13:15:00","date_gmt":"2014-12-01T13:15:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.randian.art\/?p=20399"},"modified":"2024-01-11T13:16:55","modified_gmt":"2024-01-11T13:16:55","slug":"winners-announced-for-the-1st-iaac-art-criticism-awards","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.randian.art\/zh-hant\/winners-announced-for-the-1st-iaac-art-criticism-awards\/","title":{"rendered":"Winners announced for the 1st IAAC Art Criticism Awards"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The winners of the 1<sup>st<\/sup>&nbsp;edition of the<a href=\"http:\/\/www.iaac-m21.com\/english\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>&nbsp;International Awards for Art Criticism<\/strong><\/a>&nbsp;(IAAC) were announced on November 24 at the newly opened Shanghai Minsheng 21C Museum. With his essay \u201cLanguage is Confrontation\u2014Reflections sparked by Yan Lei\u2019s solo exhibition \u2018Bilder, die(nie) verschwinden\u2019\u201d, Su Wei won the 1<sup>st<\/sup>&nbsp;prize with a sum of 50 000 RMB (approx. 8100 USD) along with a fully funded two-week residency (flights and accommodation) in London in spring 2015. The two 2<sup>nd<\/sup>&nbsp;prize winners were Joobin Bekhrad with his \u201cSin City, on Iranian History, the Qajar Dynasty, Pop Culture\u201d and Zhang Hanlu with her \u201cThe Impulse to Scribble: On Liu Chuang\u2019s \u2018Love Story\u2019\u201d, with both winning fully funded two-week residencies in either London or Shanghai.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The IAAC was co-organized by the AICA (International Association of Art Critics\/Association Internationale des Critiques d\u2019Art) and the Shanghai Minsheng 21C Museum\u2014which also sponsored the prize\u2014with the partnership of the Royal College of the Arts (RCA) and the UK branch of the AICA. Art criticism in English and Chinese were solicited from critics globally. The international jury was made up of J. J. Charlesworth (deputy chief editor of&nbsp;<em>Art Review<\/em>), Richard Vine (chief editor of&nbsp;<em>Art in America<\/em>), Rachel Withers (lecturer, and contributor to&nbsp;<em>Art Forum<\/em>), Karen Smith (art historian, and managing director of OCAT Xi\u2019an), Lu Yinghua (curator, art critic, and writer), and Yi Ying (professor at the Central Academy of Fine Arts, Beijing). The essays were judged anonymously, and the two-day discussion reportedly resulted in heated debate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Over 300 essays were reportedly submitted for the competition from around the world\u2014with the proportion being roughly half in English and half in Chinese. 30 essays made the initial cut for the jury to deliberate on.
